Who is Flex It Physiotherapy?

Hi! My name is Fouad Abdo (Director of Flex It Physiotherapy) and after 5 long years of study, I finally graduated in early 2014 from a Masters in Physiotherapy degree at the University of Sydney. Since then I have explored the Physio game for over 4 years. As a young Physiotherapist I was thrown into the deep end and was asked to manage a busy local private practice as the lone Physio. Since then I have not looked back. From my experience in the field, I found that nothing matters more than patient comfort, communication and ethical treatment. These values are what led me to create my small home-based Physio business in late 2017. With the blink of an eye, the opportunity arose to open up inside a brand new medical centre in Bass Hill - Southwest Medical Specialist Centre... And with so much family and friend support and commitment, today we have Flex It Physiotherapy.

Our Treatments

Get HELP – Get MOVING – Get STRONGER !

In life we all experience many setbacks and challenges. So does the human body. Change cannot occur overnight but it all begins with one single step. Getting help!

Every person is unique in their own way. At Flex It Physiotherapy our 1 on 1 physio programs are individualised to your specific goals and needs. With the right help and attitude, recovery is just around the corner.
Feeling tense or stiff? or just stressed? We offer general relaxation and remedial massage therapy.

Massage assists in attracting local blood flow, reducing muscular tension and allowing natural muscular function for improved mobility. Thus decreasing pain. Massage can be light and relaxing or remedial for treatment purposes.

Trigger point therapy is a form of remedial massage where direct pressure is applied to specific points on tender muscle tissue to allow reduction in muscle tension and pain relief.
At Flex It Physiotherapy, we follow research evidence for optimum results. Exercise is by far the most effective treatment modality for recovery from any recent or on-going injury.

There is strong evidence suggesting that exercise, when combined with other modalities of Physiotherapy is most effective in achieving recovery outcomes.

Exercise programs are specific to the individual and what they are capable of. It will be prescribed based on your goals and will be relevant to your age, injury or condition. For example some programs are based just on regaining range of motion, while others may be resistance based for strengthening purposes. Some may be just a stretching class, while others may be directly relevant to your sport or job. You will work with a qualified therapist who will educate, demonstrate and monitor you during all your sessions.
Sport and Physiotherapy go hand-in-hand. We focus on early management of an injury for speedier recovery. The general consensus is:

  • Assess and diagnose
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Reduce muscle tension
  • Reduce pain
  • Improve mobility
  • Regain strength/balance/agility
  • Return to sport
  • Prevent re-injury

Early treatment is important – yet prevention and self-management are most key to a complete return to sport. Rolled an ankle? Twisted a knee? done a shoulder? or just on-going niggles?

That is what we are here for so COME SEE US!
Most patients are booked in for Physiotherapy days after a hand, shoulder, knee or back surgery. Yet why are Physio’s often forgotten just prior to the surgery? Specific mobility and strengthening exercises just before a surgery can improve a patient’s ability to avoid post-surgical de-conditioning and bounce back quicker and stronger after a surgery.
Surgery will affect us physically yet can also be psychologically and emotionally damaging. We will work with you as a team and at your pace to bring you back to the best you can possibly be. The type of surgery will determine the type of treatment and length of recovery. Below is a list of common surgeries which require Physiotherapy:

  • Lower back surgery (Spinal decompression surgery/Lumbar discectomy/Lumbar fusion etc.)
  • Knee Surgery (Meniscal tears/ACL reconstruction/patella related surgery etc.)
  • Knee or Hip replacements
  • Shoulder arthroscopies (Rotator Cuff repair/Bone spur removal/Labral repair/Repair for recurrent shoulder dislocation/A-C joint repair)
  • Carpal Tunnel Releases
  • Tennis elbow and Golfer’s elbow release
  • Achilles tendon repair
  • Fracture fixations
  • Inguinal or umbilical hernias
From the office to the jobsite, various injuries are lurking in the workplace.

Long hours behind a screen on a day-to-day basis can lead to significant postural stress and dysfunction.

As for the hard yakka… Slips, trips, heavy lifting, repetitive twisting, prolonged bending… the list goes on. On the job, there’s no denying the impact these can have to our hard-working society.

With years of experience in the WorkCover/CTP field – Flex It Physiotherapy will liaise with all relevant parties to ensure a safe and smooth return to work and life.
Australia is an ageing population, thus care for the elderly is at high demand. Physiotherapy is at the forefront of aged care and at Flex It Physiotherapy we take a careful approach to your concerns.

As all mothers know – Pregnancy does take its toll on the human body – both during and after the process. Back pain is the most common complaint – typically occurring in the 2nd half of pregnancy. ‘Sciatica’, although less common is also prevalent; as are Carpal Tunnel symptoms.

Pregnancy related back pain actually occurs where the pelvis meets the spine (known as the Sacro-iliac Joint or SIJ) – but can also be within the joints of the lumbar spine itself. ‘Sciatica’ is pain radiating along the sciatic nerve, which runs down one or both legs from the lower back. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition where the Median nerve running through the wrist and into the fingers is compressed causing wrist stiffness, soreness, weakness and ‘nerve pain’ into the thumb and adjacent 2 fingers.

Why does pregnancy cause back pain?

  • Hormonal changes (ligament laxity)
  • Core muscular separation and weakness (in abdominal and pelvic floor muscles)
  • Added weight (fluid, baby’s weight etc.)
  • Postural changes (increased lumbar lordosis, weight shift, centre of gravity shift)
  • Stress (tension, emotion)

It is important to know that something can be done to reduce your pain.

Physiotherapy will help to reduce swelling, loosen tight areas, strengthen weak areas, improve your posture and of course minimise your pain.

How?

  • Light massage
  • Joint mobility
  • Stretching
  • Strengthening
  • Taping
  • Heat
  • Postural education
  • Yoga/Pilates
  • SIJ belts
